High Efficiency Cooling Rebates
El Paso Electric (EPE) offers incentives in its New Mexico service territory to residential customers or contractors who install high efficiency air conditioning in new or existing residential dwellings. Incentives vary depending on the type, size, and efficiency of the unit, and only ENERGY STAR® qualified matched systems are eligible. Customers should review the Eligibility guidelines, Application Process, and Incentive Information below before completing an application or purchasing any equipment.
Eligibility
In order to qualify for an incentive from El Paso Electric, customers must meet the following
conditions:
• Customer must be a residential customer of EPE
• The system must include both the outdoor and indoor units meeting the program
minimum SEER and EER levels according to the Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (ARI).
• The unit must be a split system with a capacity of less than 65,000 BTUh (5.4 tons). Central AC units and
heat pumps qualify.
• The unit must meet the January 1, 2009 criteria for ENERGY STAR labeling per the following table (verify eligibility at www.epesaver.com/ac_eligibility)

* These standards apply to new residential construction, or to homes that were previously conditioned with an evaporative cooling unit or did not have any type of cooling equipment. "New homes" refer to newly constructed single-family or duplex units receiving their first certificate of occupancy within the previous 90 days.
As a consumer:
- Be sure you understand the terms of any agreement before signing and know how much you will pay.
- Request a copy of all paperwork.
- You have 72 hours (3 days) to cancel any agreement (called Right of Rescission period).
- Ask for an "All Bills Paid Affidavit" if a subcontractor is used.
- An EPE representative may contact you to verify the work was done.
