Evaporative Cooling System Rebates

El Paso Electric (EPE) is promoting modern evaporative cooling technologies in its New Mexico service territory by offering rebates to its residential customers, or their contractors. Evaporative systems must be permanently installed units that meet applicable Industry Standard Rating (ISR) airflow and evaporative effectiveness requirements. Customers should review the Eligibility guidelines, Application Process, and Incentive Information below before completing an application or purchasing any equipment.

Eligibility

In order to qualify for an incentive from El Paso Electric, customers must be a residential customer of EPE and the new or replacement central cooler must meet the following performance requirements.

  1. Be permanently installed;
  2. Have at least two (2) fan speeds and operate with the media wet or dry;
  3. Have UL recognized electrical components;
  4. Have either:
    1. A multi-function manual control switch which offers high and low fan speed, pump on or off and the unit control of on or off. When a multi-function manual control switch is used, pressure relief dampers are not required, or
    2. A thermostat specifically designed for evaporative coolers that automatically controls the unit operation based on the indoor temperature and controls both fan speed and pump operation. The automatic thermostat must be mounted remotely from the cooler, or
    3. Any automatic thermostat remotely mounted from an indirect evaporative system.
  5. Automatic thermostats require pressure relief dampers which qualify for an added rebate when they are installed with a new Level 1 or Level 2 evaporative cooler. To qualify, they must be new, and the proof of purchase accompanying the rebate application must show the pressure relief dampers’ cost and installation.

Application Process

Many air conditioning contractors serving EPE customers have application forms and can assist customers in completing their applications. Be sure to review program requirements with your contractor before purchasing the equipment, as EPE will refuse to pay incentives for equipment that does not meet eligibility criteria. Once qualified equipment is installed, complete the application form and submit it with a copy of your reciept or contractor invoice to the address on the Rebate Application Form. Reciepts and invoices must clearly indicate the brand, model # and serial #. Rebate checks will be sent within four to six weeks of receiving your application.

Incentive Information

Incentives vary depending on the type of evaporative cooling system being installed, and each must meet certain airflow and evaporative effectiveness requirements. Customers should carefully review the Eligibility guidelines, listed above, before completing an application. Refer to the Eligibility Listing here
