Installing energy efficient equipment for cooking, ice making, and other uses can result in reduced energy use and lower utility bills for commercial food service establishments.

Rebates are available to El Paso Electric’s New Mexico commercial customers for installation of high efficiency food service equipment.

The Knowledge You Need.

Qualifying equipment can be installed for retrofit, replace-on-burnout, or new construction applications. All equipment must be electric.

Applicable building types may include independent restaurants, chain restaurants, elementary and secondary schools, colleges and universities, corporate food service operations, healthcare, hospitality, and supermarkets.

All equipment must meet ENERGY STAR® specifications. For more information see below or online: https://www.energystar.gov/products?s=mega

The following high efficiency commercial food service equipment types are eligible for rebates:

ENERGY STAR® Combination Ovens

Combination ovens are convection ovens that offer three cooking modes: a combination mode for roasting or baking with moist heat, convection mode for cooking with dry heat, or as a straight pressure-less steamer. A benefit of the combination oven is that it controls humidity in the oven chamber, improving cook times and delivering consistent cooking results.

Eligible units must meet ENERGY STAR® specifications, with half-size and full-size ovens as defined by ENERGY STAR® and a pan capacity ≥ 5 and ≤ 20. Rebates are per unit, based on size. ENERGY STAR® provides a list of eligible products online.

ENERGY STAR® Combination Oven Sizes and Rebates
Combination Oven Size and Capacity Rebate ($/unit)
Half-Size: holds a single 12 x 20 x 2½-inch steam table pan per rack position,
loaded from front-to-back or lengthwise
TBD
Full-Size: holds two 12 x 20 x 2½-inch steam table pans per rack position,
loaded from front-to-back or lengthwise
TBD

Note: The following products are excluded from the ENERGY STAR® eligibility criteria: a) 2/3-sized combination ovens; b) Dual-fuel heat source combination ovens; c) Gas combination ovens; d) Electric combination ovens with a pan capacity <5 or >20.

ENERGY STAR® Convection Ovens

Convection ovens contain a fan that circulates heat around food, allowing food to be cooked faster, more evenly, and at lower heat. Convection ovens also allow for multiple food items to be cooked at the same time, rapidly and evenly.

Eligible units must meet ENERGY STAR® specifications, with half-size and full-size ovens as defined by ENERGY STAR®. Rebates are per unit, according to size. ENERGY STAR® provides a list of eligible products online.

ENERGY STAR® Convection Oven Specifications and Rebate Amounts
Oven Capacity Rebate ($/unit)
Half-Size: holds half-size sheet pans measuring 18 x 13 x 1-inch TBD
Full-Size: holds full-size sheet pans measuring 18 x 26 x 1-inch TBD

ENERGY STAR® Hot Food Holding Cabinets

High efficiency hot food holding cabinets incorporate better insulation to reduce heat loss and may offer additional energy saving devices such as magnetic door gaskets, auto-door closers, or Dutch doors. The insulation of the cabinet offers better temperature uniformity with the cabinet from top to bottom.

Eligible units must meet ENERGY STAR® specifications, with half-size, three-quarter size, and full-size ovens as defined by ENERGY STAR®. Rebates are per unit, according to size. ENERGY STAR® provides a list of eligible products online.

ENERGY STAR® Hot Food Holding Cabinet Specifications and Rebate Amounts
Cabinet Size Product Interior Volume [ft3] Rebate ($/unit)
Half-Size 0 < V < 13 TBD
Three-Quarter Size 13 ≤ V ≤ 28 TBD
Full-Size 28 ≤ V TBD

NOTE: The following products are excluded from the ENERGY STAR® eligibility criteria: 1) Dual function equipment; 2) Heated transparent merchandising cabinets; 3) Drawer warmers.

ENERGY STAR® Electric Fryers

High efficiency electric fryers that have earned the ENERGY STAR® rating offer shorter cook times and higher production rates through advanced burner and heat exchanger designs. Fry pot insulation reduces standby losses resulting in a lower idle energy rate.

Eligible units must meet ENERGY STAR® specifications, either counter-top or floor type designs, with standard-size and large vat fryers as defined by ENERGY STAR®. ENERGY STAR® provides a list of eligible products online.

Fryer Size Rebate ($/unit)
Standard-Size Electric Fryer:
vat measures ≥ 12 inches and < 18 inches wide,
and a shortening capacity ≥ 25 pounds and ≤ 65 pounds
TBD
Large Vat Electric Fryer:
vat measures ≥ 18 inches and ≤ 24 inches wide,
and a shortening capacity > 50 pounds
TBD

NOTE: The following products are excluded from the ENERGY STAR® eligibility criteria: Fryers with vats measuring < 12 inches wide, or > 24 inches wide

ENERGY STAR® Electric Steam Cookers

ENERGY STAR® qualified electric steam cookers are up to 50 percent more efficient than standard models. They have higher production rates and reduced heat loss due to better insulation and a more efficient steam delivery system.

Eligible units must meet ENERGY STAR® specifications. Eligible Steam Cookers can have a 3, 4, 5 or 6 pan capacity. Rebates are per unit according to capacity. ENERGY STAR® provides a list of eligible products online.
